At the end of their 8th grade year, West Somerville Neighborhood School students will have the opportunity to go on a 3-day, 2-night trip to our nation's capital, Washington D.C. For many students, this trip will not only serve as a fitting capstone to our study of civics and government, but a rare opportunity to travel outside of Massachusetts and gain a greater understanding of our country's diverse people, landscapes and perspectives.
We will leave on a charter bus early on Tuesday, May 28th and return late in the evening on Thursday, May 30.
Our itinerary should take us to all 3 branches of our federal government, the Capitol, the White House and the Supreme Court. We will also tour monuments and museums relating to our studies this year including the Lincoln Memorial, MLK Jr Memorial, FDR Memorial and American History Museum, the Holocaust Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian and the African-American Smithsonian.
In order to participate in this experience, students must consistently meet school behavioral expectations.
They will also be asked to participate in and support school fundraisers.
The full cost per student for this experience is $679.
To make the trip accessible to all families, families are asked to contribute a minimum of $350.
Families able to cover the full cost of their student are encouraged to do so.
*Payments of more than the minimum ($350) will be added to the funding provided by the WSNS PTA to ensure
that all interested students are able to attend, regardless of ability to pay.*
If the $350 cost is out of reach, please consider committing to a monthly payment that your family can afford.
